| | Chiavennasca, Span, Marchesana, Picotendre, Prunenta, Malasca Historical signs: native vine of the Piedmont, particularly of the Langhes and of the Albese. They have news beginning from 300. In Valtellina it is cultivated and known with the name of Chiavennasca, while in the novarese it is said Span. Biotipis exist different of it: Lampia, Rosè, Michet, Briotti, Chiavennascone. The origin of its name seems can derive from the fact that the grapes, being very rich of pruina, they seem wound by the fog; others make to derive his/her name from his/her late maturation that a vintage requires in the autumn period when the fog is more frequent. Characteristic ampelografiche: great middle leaf, pentagonal, orbicolare - great middle cluster, pyramidal lengthened, seed-compact with a wing very pronounced - middle grape, spherical-ellipsoidal, the pruinose peel is thin but consistent, the color is violet dark color. Maturation: late Vigor: average-elevated The wine's characteristics: it draws not a particularly intense red wine, alcoholic, fresh and strongly tannico; the taste is full and strong. It constitutes the DOCGs Barolo, Barbaresco, Ghemme, Gattinara, Valtellina Superiore, the DOC valdostana Donnas and big part of the Piedmontese DOCs.
